Bridgemas is a festival held every year in mid-December, to celebrate the start of winter in the Base – the name is a portmanteau of “Bridgian Christmas”. It is a time for celebration, where we think about the progress we have made over the last year.
Bridgemas in 2023 was held on the 15th of December, notable for being the 400th day of the Bridge Base Log.
The day before 2023’s Bridgemas-celebrations, we sung We Wish You A Merry Bridgemas: a Bridgianisation of We Wish You A Merry Christmas, with different lyrics.
What I would like to say, to all my fellow Bridgians, is that the Foundation values fun most highly, and there’s no time other than Bridgemas where this is most emphasised.
♪ We wish you a merry Bridgemas, and a happy new year! ♪
On the day, we started with a speech from the Devious One, like at BridgeCon four weeks earlier. He spoke of such things as the resilience of the Bridgians and the decimal roundness of the Bridge Base Log’s page number: four hundred exactly.
He also talked of singing a ‘somewhat new Bridgian song’, something that is detailed on the next section.
After the speech, we sung Planks A’ Crashing, all sixty-four bars of Bridgian lyrics. This is, we believe, the most receptive the Bridgians have ever been to singing, and likely ever will be.
Bridgemas in 2024 was held on the 20th of December (day 635 of the Bridge Base Log if you’re interested).
Another year of Bridgemas necessitates another Bridgianisation of a traditional Christmas-carol by the Devious One: this time, Deck The Hall. As a change from last year’s We Wish You A Merry Bridgemas, Deck The Base has the chords changed from whatever the traditional ones are.
