Planks A' Crashing

Description

History

Planks A' Crashing was the third song to be released by the Foundation, on 2023-11-17, at BridgeCon 2023. In its development, it was known as the 'Bridge Base Anthem', but it was renamed along with the previously-released 'Bridge Base Song' and 'Bridge Base Marching Theme'.
This was because the former names were quite boring, and calling every song 'Bridge Base something' was getting repetitive.

Structure

Planks A' Crashing is in the key of B major, consisting of sixteen 4-bar verses. Its melodic structure has eight verses, repeated twice, with choruses every four bars. That refers to an 'A-B-C-D-E-F-G-D; A-B-C-D-E-F-G-H' pattern, where D is the normal chorus, and H is the final chorus.
However, all the verses' lyrics are different – besides the choruses in verses 4 and 12.

Lyrics

These are the lyrics of Planks A' Crashing:

Verse 1: In the Base of tyres and wood; Beneath the canopy, Bridge Base stood.

Verse 2: Out of Ohio we come, relaid; But by our members, we were made!

Verse 3: We sing until we're giddy; Beneath the sacred Trees.

Verse 4: Planks a'crashing, tyres rolling; O great Bridge Base, forever may you be!

Verse 5: Many a Base has ceased to be; Like the great oak, with chambers three.

Verse 6: If Bridge Base ever starts to fall; Recurrence shall soon enthral.

Verse 7: Even though there's been war; Bridge Base shall always endure.

Verse 8: Bridge Base forever, Bridge Base forever; O great Bridge Base, forever may you be!

Verse 9: Though the time will one day fade; Good memories have been made.

Verse 10: Through many a plot, through many a plight; Bridge Base stands, fair and bright!

Verse 11: We will last forever more; We have not shut the door.

Verse 12: Planks a'crashing, tyres rolling; O great Bridge Base, forever may you be!

Verse 13: We have risen from blow after blow; Yet the walls will one day lay low.

Verse 14: But that day will not come; 'Til Bridge Base is tiered and done.

Verse 15: We protect the forested keep; To prevent it falling ever deep.

Verse 16: Bridge Base forever, Bridge Base forever; O great Bridge Base, how we love thee!
