Heífhen (in English: The Sky River) is a piano duet composed by the Bridge Base Foundation between January and Feburary 2026.

The tempo is given as Andante e agitato, ♩ = 75.

Structure

Heífhen is in the key of E♭ minor and runs for 54 bars (approx. 3 minutes of playing)

There are four themes in the song, listed in the order in which they appear:

  1. The bassline and tremolo "chords". Persists throughout the piece, although the tremolos are replaced with three-note arpeggios in the final sections.

  3. A more tuneful, cantabile line, which has a chromatic descending bassline and builds up tension before the climax (a perfect cadence). The theme's second appearance only develops the first four bars, with a chromatic reharmonisation transitioning into the subdominant.

  4. The tune played in the introduction of the treble left hand, and at the end of the piece. At the end, the bass plays the original tune, whilst the treble plays a third up.
